Vink, now based in Broken Hill New South Wales and totally inspired by the stunning outback region where he uses his evolving colourist/expressionist techniques to endeavour to capture the feeling of pure serenity, freedom and wide open space in many of his imaginative paintings.

Shane Anthony Vink is an imaginative and creative award winning Australian artist whose work has become very popular and he has had, and continues to have, successful solo exhibitions in many countries.

Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1966, Vink inherited his passion for art from his motherís side of the family; his mother was a dedicated exhibiting artist and Vinkís uncle was and still is quite a renowned landscape artist who has sold paintings all over the world.

In his late teens, Shaneís passion for art led him to enroll at Box Hill College, where he studied art and design for two years. After completing his studies at Box Hill, he went on to do a Certificate of Applied Art at Prahran College of Art and Design. A natural progression seemed to be to work as a graphic designer and illustrator and Shane was soon working for a leading advertising agency. However, after a few years of successful work inside the agency, his inquisitive and exploring nature (so evident in many of his paintings) took over and he longed to escape from such a controlled environment. Consequently, the travel bug took hold of him and he spent quite a few years roaming the planet like a true backpacker. His artistic nature has always led him to be passionate about trying new things and it has led him to look for fresh experiences and adventures and to never let things stay the same. This free spirit has manifested itself in many forms, whether it be in travelling, working, art or even experimenting and playing with different types of recreational substances, Vink has always believed in exploring the endless possibilities and different ways the mind comprehends things; after all, this was what an adventurous and carefree life called for!

After returning to his native land, Vink set up an exciting and innovative new video game business with a close friend. This venture did very well for many years and consequently his art was forced to take a back seat during this period. However, he continued to sketch, design and draw whenever he could, as this was always in his blood. Eventually the routine of a day to day business life became too much and he was ready to take off on another journey, only this time he would combine his art with travel. He spent about six months in Thailand, where he just enjoyed painting again and he honed his art skills whilst living in a tropical climate, wearing only T-shirts, shorts and thongs and really enjoying the Southeast Asian lifestyle.

He found the results of his days painting so enjoying, fulfilling and encouraging he decided to become a full-time artist in 2008 and he spent a year painting in a studio in Malaysia. This turned out to be a fantastic move in that it proved to be a turning point in the development of his unique style. Apart from the satisfaction of being able to be creative and to produce paintings that people loved (which was a great feeling in itself), the work sold exceptionally well. Now, Shane spends around six months each year in Malaysia and Singapore, avoiding the Melbourne winters and loving being fully absorbed in his painting.

Vinkís whimsical, distinctive, stylised and imaginative paintings have been created using his self-taught colourist layering techniques. A graphic design background is also very evident with the simple purity of composition and balance. His eye catching paintings have a lasting Ďdreamyí feeling about them. The artist explains the embryonic stages of the creative process as the realisation of stored images from his experience: íeach painting or theme of paintings starts with an idea or an image of an idea, which could actually be a tapestry of images from all the things and places that have been imprinted in my mind.í On the painting process, he says: Ďthen whilst Iím painting, a real feeling for the works comes alive. Often Iím almost in a meditative state and it flows beautifully, or on rare occasions it can become a bit of a duel. Sometimes these duels can last for quite a few days, until Iím either completely satisfied with the result, or it starts to drive me crazy; then, on a whim, Iíll take a knife to the canvas and feel totally relieved that itís out of my life and Iím ready to start a fresh creation. Luckily, Iím obsessed with painting and dreaming of new paintings, as there is always two or three imagined paintings swirling around in my mind, just waiting to emerge onto the canvas.í

In such a short time, Shane Vinkís paintings are being sought after and enjoyed by art lovers and collectors world wide. Vink continues to immerse himself in his art and is constantly dreaming of Ďthe next paintingí.
